During the International Conference on AIDS in Mexico, the young and promising Indian Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss called for the decriminalisation of homosexuality in India.
A heritage of the British Empire, the law punishing gay sex is getting critisized, while India is facing strong AIDS contamination. The most vulnerable populations amongst which the gay community, are discriminated against and do not benefit from prevention and care programmes.
The High Court in Bombay also said the law should be revised. A first in India ! At the same time, favored by the economic and social growth, people are getting more tolerant. Changes are definitely arising in the country ! |
